McDonald's Assignment for Global Management

This assignment is a world tour of McDonald's restaurants to underscore how foreign cultures can influence the menus of the world's best known restaurant brand name.
The objective is to visit the web sites of three different McDonald's restaurants in three countries on three different continents (such as Asia, Europe, South America). You can also include Australia (very interesting), Canada, Mexico, Central America and Caribbean countries.
Write several paragraphs about your opinion of the menu, how it reflects the special culture and tastes of the country, and what you think about adding some of the sandwiches to the U.S. menu.
Don't write too much about what's on the menu. It's better to print out the menu and attach it to the report so that I can see what you are writing about.
The report should be typed, double-spaced and about two pages total.

Glass Ceiling Assignment

Your Textbook describes the "Glass Ceiling" as "an invisible barrier that limits the advancement of women and minorities in some organizations."
Your assignment is to write a brief report about the "Glass Ceiling" (about two pages, typed double-spaced) based on your own research, using Internet sources, including the LIM College library on line ProQuest and Lexis-Nexis. You can put the keyword on Google to find more information. Several excellent news sources are The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Business Week.
Discuss some of the following relevant issues:
1. What are the implications of the "Glass Ceiling" for women seeking to advance and prosper in organizations traditionally dominated by white males?
2. Discuss situations of misunderstandings and/or lack of sensitivity. Refer to any personal experiences that you may have had at work.
3. Review some of the key issues including sexual harassment, pay discrimination and possibly job discrimination by managers who feel women might not stick with a job and leave when they get pregnant.
4. Find an example of a successful career woman who has become the CEO of a major Fortune 500 company. One example is Carly Fiorina, who was the controversial CEO of Hewlett-Packard. Another interesting example is a woman from India, who became CEO of Pepsico, Inc.
Write briefly about their career, and what made them successful. Do you look at them as role models?
Note: These should be women in non-traditional careers. For many years, women have been CEO's in service industries such as advertising, public relations, media, Hollywood, non-profit organizations, health care, universities, etc.

3. You can reprint a short paragraph or photo from the story on the blog. Then add your own personal candid analysis and opinions of the subject.

1. Read Chapters 1 and 2 in textbook, and Chapters 1--3 in outside reading, The Disposable American (new paperback edition).
2. Read the current issue of Business Week magazine. Find and clip one article that relates to the topics in the textbook chapters assigned this week or in the classroom lectures.
Example: "Business Outlook" column on page 25 of the current May 28 issue. The headline is "Inflation Wild Cards Will Keep the Fed on Hold." Refer to the definition of "inflation" on page 17 in the textbook.
Please type your report with double-spaced lines. Attach the article that you select to the report. You should describe the topic as well as give your own personal interpretation and analysis of the topic.
